Take an example. Ayesha, a BS graduate in Abbottabad, books IELTS on computer at an Islamabad centre to apply for a master's in the UK. Her fee is Rs. 75,600. Ten days before the test, a family event clashes with her date, and moving it now costs Rs. 19,000 more. Had she moved it a week earlier, the change would have been free. That gap is what this guide is about: the IELTS fee in Pakistan is more than one number on a booking page.

Most students only check the test price. The real cost depends on which version you book, when you change your plans, and what you do if one band comes out short. Here is what you will find below:

  • The current fee for every IELTS version, city by city
  • How much prices rose between February and July 2026
  • The exact rupee cost of moving or cancelling your date
  • When a remark or a One Skill Retake is cheaper than a full retest
  • Three sample budgets, from a clean first attempt to a costly one

IELTS Fee in Pakistan at a Glance

The British Council's pricing document effective 2 July 2026 is the latest official list we could find. IDP's Pakistan fee page shows the same amounts and splits them by city. Both bodies run the same test, so the IELTS fee in Pakistan is the same wherever you book.

Test Lahore, Faisalabad Islamabad, Gujrat, Karachi, Hyderabad Who books it
IELTS Academic or General Training Rs. 76,240 Rs. 75,600 University admission, most work and migration routes
IELTS for UKVI (Academic or General) Rs. 78,820 Rs. 78,820 UK visa routes that ask for a secure English test
IELTS Life Skills Rs. 53,000 Rs. 53,000 Certain UK visa routes, not university admission
One Skill Retake (standard IELTS) Rs. 48,050 Rs. 47,630 Repeating one skill after a computer test
One Skill Retake (UKVI) Rs. 48,000 Rs. 48,000 Repeating one skill after a UKVI computer test

If you live in Abbottabad, Mansehra or elsewhere in Hazara, you will most likely sit the test in Islamabad, which falls in the Rs. 75,600 group. Budget for the trip and, if your slot starts early, a night's stay.

How Much Did IELTS Prices Rise in 2026?

The IELTS fee in Pakistan changes more than once a year. The British Council has already issued several pricing documents in 2026. Comparing the British Council's February 2026 pricing document with the July one shows how quickly the numbers move:

  • Computer-delivered IELTS went from Rs. 71,320–71,920 to Rs. 75,600–76,240.
  • IELTS for UKVI went from Rs. 72,000 to Rs. 78,820, a jump of Rs. 6,820.
  • Life Skills went from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 53,000.
  • The remark (Enquiry on Results) fee went from Rs. 38,500 to Rs. 39,650.

The practical lesson: the fee you pay is the one in force on the day you book. If a price revision is announced and you already know your date, booking earlier can save a few thousand rupees. Never assume last year's figure from a forum post is still right.

Which IELTS Version Should You Pay For?

Picking the wrong version is the costliest mistake on this list, because a score from the wrong test can be useless for your application. Check the exact wording in your university offer or visa guidance before you pay.

Academic or General Training

Universities ask for Academic. General Training is usually for work and migration routes. Both cost the same, so the choice is about what your receiving body asks for, not price.

IELTS for UKVI

This is the same test content, delivered under extra security so UK Visas and Immigration accepts it for visa applications. It costs Rs. 3,220 more than the standard Islamabad price. Universities set their own admission rules, but some UK visa routes need the UKVI version. If your offer letter or visa route names a "SELT" or "IELTS for UKVI", book that one.

IELTS Life Skills

Life Skills is a separate, shorter test for certain UK visa routes. It is cheaper at Rs. 53,000, but it is not a substitute for Academic IELTS. Don't book it to save money on a study application.

British Council or IDP: Is One Cheaper?

No. The IELTS fee in Pakistan is identical in the two lists, rupee for rupee. The differences are practical:

  • Format: IDP's Pakistan page says computer-delivered IELTS is the only format it now offers. The British Council's July list still shows a paper fee at the same price as computer.
  • Dates and centres: Each body has its own calendar. If one has no seat on your preferred day, check the other before paying a transfer fee to move.
  • Results: The British Council says computer-delivered results are usually available in 1 to 2 days. That speed matters if your admission deadline is close.

Book with whichever body has the date, centre and support you need. Just make sure you book through the official British Council or IDP website, not an agent who adds a markup.

What Happens to Your Money If You Change Your Date?

This is where most avoidable losses happen. The British Council's cancellation and transfer policy works on the number of days left before your test:

  1. 15 days or more before: you can transfer free, or cancel and get 75% back. The July list shows a refund of Rs. 57,200 on a standard test.
  2. 5 to 14 days before: a transfer is allowed, but the IELTS transfer fee is a 25% admin charge, which the July list sets at Rs. 19,000 (Rs. 19,700 for UKVI). A cancellation gets no refund.
  3. Under 5 days before: no transfers at all. A request is treated as a cancellation, so you lose the full fee.

The day you act decides whether a date change is free, costs Rs. 19,000 or costs the full fee.

There is one exception. If you face a serious illness, a bereavement or a similar emergency, you can apply to the test centre with evidence. You must apply before the test, or within two calendar days after it if you missed it. If approved, you may get a refund or transfer, though an admin fee can still apply. Refunds take 4 to 6 weeks.

Changing only the city, for example from a Punjab centre to a Sindh one, has its own smaller charge of Rs. 1,150 to Rs. 1,790 in the July list.

Costs After the Test: Remark, Retake and Extra Reports

The IELTS fee in Pakistan covers one sitting. Your spending may not end on test day, and three charges come up often.

Enquiry on Results (Remark)

If you believe a section was marked too low, you can ask for a remark. The IELTS remark fee in the July list is Rs. 39,650 for standard IELTS and Rs. 41,000 for UKVI. You must apply within six weeks of your test. According to IDP's guide to remarks and One Skill Retake, the fee is the same whether you choose one skill or all four. The British Council refunds the fee if your score rises in any section.

IELTS One Skill Retake

If you took the test on computer and fell short in one skill only, you can retake just that skill. It costs Rs. 47,630 to Rs. 48,050, roughly Rs. 28,000 less than a full test. You must book within 60 days of your original test. If you want both a remark and a retake for the same test, IDP says the remark request must go in within two weeks of your Listening, Reading and Writing date.

Extra Test Report Forms

If a university needs an extra paper copy of your result, sending it by Pakistan Post costs Rs. 1,000. Sending it by FedEx or DHL costs Rs. 4,750 to Rs. 5,550. Many universities accept the electronic report now, so ask before you pay for a courier.

Remark, One Skill Retake or Full Retake?

Suppose you needed 6.5 in every band and got 6.0 in Writing. You have three options, and each one costs a different amount. Two questions narrow it down. How far below your practice scores was the weak band? And did you miss in one skill or several?

Match your result to a box before you spend another rupee.

A remark makes sense when the score is well below what you scored in timed mock tests with feedback from a trainer. If your score matches your mocks, the marking was probably fair, and a remark is likely to cost you Rs. 39,650 for nothing. In that case, spend two to four weeks on the weak skill and use the One Skill Retake. If several skills fell short and all of them are far below your mocks, one remark request can cover all four skills for the same fee. If they match your mocks, a full retake after proper preparation is usually the honest choice.

Three Sample Budgets for One IELTS Attempt

These totals use the July 2026 Islamabad-group fees and exclude travel, books and coaching. They show how timing and results change what you finally spend.

Scenario What happens Fees paid
Clean attempt Books once, sits the test, meets the score Rs. 75,600
Late date change Moves the date 10 days before the test Rs. 94,600
Short in one skill Uses a One Skill Retake within 60 days Rs. 123,230
Unsuccessful remark, then retake Remark changes nothing, then a One Skill Retake Rs. 162,880

So the true IELTS fee in Pakistan can range from one payment to more than two. The gap between the first row and the last is more than double the original fee. Most of that difference comes from booking too early or sitting the test before you were ready, not from the price list itself.

How to Avoid Paying Twice

  1. Book only after two strong mock tests. Take two full, timed practice tests a week apart. If both reach your target band, book.
  2. Pick a date at least 15 days after any known event. Exams, weddings and travel are the usual reasons for paid transfers.
  3. Put the 15-day and 5-day deadlines in your phone calendar on the day you book.
  4. Confirm the version in writing. Copy the exact test name from your offer letter or visa guidance.
  5. Practise typing if you take the computer test. On the computer version you type your Writing answers, so slow typing eats into your time. Our guide on how to increase typing speed has a simple daily drill.
  6. Keep your passport details identical to the booking. A name mismatch can stop you at the test-day check.

Building Your English Base With PSTA

An IELTS band is hard to raise when the basics are shaky. If you still pause to build sentences, mix up tenses or freeze when speaking, test tricks won't close that gap. Fix the foundation first, then move to IELTS practice.

PSTA's English Spoken and Grammar course is a 12-week, beginner-level program. Its modules cover sentence formation, tenses in speech, pronunciation, fluency drills, role plays, group discussion and email writing, and the course closes with a presented talk and an assessment for the certificate. At the time of writing, the course page shows a fee of Rs. 12,000 against a regular Rs. 14,000. Classes run in person in Abbottabad, as live sessions for students in other cities, or as a mix of both, and a fresh batch begins each month.

To be clear, this is a spoken English and grammar course, not an IELTS exam-strategy class. It suits students who want stronger speaking and writing before they start IELTS mock tests. If your typing is slow, the English and Urdu typing course helps with the computer-delivered Writing section. For more practice, read our 30-day English speaking plan and the list of common English mistakes Pakistanis make. You can browse all PSTA courses or check the steps on our admission page when you are ready.

Check Your Offer Letter Before You Pay

Before you pay the IELTS fee in Pakistan, which is now Rs. 75,000 or more, open your offer letter or visa guidance and copy three things into one note: the exact test name, the band you need in each skill, and your application deadline. Then count back at least 15 days from your preferred test date. With those three details, you'll book the right version once, at a date you can keep.

Frequently asked questions

What is the IELTS fee in Pakistan in 2026?

Under the British Council's list effective 2 July 2026, Academic or General Training IELTS costs Rs. 76,240 in Lahore and Faisalabad and Rs. 75,600 in Islamabad, Gujrat, Karachi and Hyderabad. IELTS for UKVI costs Rs. 78,820 and Life Skills costs Rs. 53,000. Prices change during the year, so check the official list on the day you book.

Is IELTS cheaper at IDP or the British Council?

No. IDP's Pakistan fee page and the British Council's July 2026 pricing document show the same registration fees. Choose based on the date, centre and format you need. IDP says it now offers only the computer-delivered test in Pakistan, so check each provider's calendar before deciding.

Do I get my money back if I cancel my IELTS test?

Only if you cancel 15 or more days before the test. In that case the British Council refunds 75% of the fee, which its July 2026 list shows as Rs. 57,200 for a standard test. Cancel within 14 days and there is no refund, unless the centre accepts an emergency claim backed by evidence.

How much does it cost to change my IELTS test date?

Moving your date is free if you ask 15 or more days ahead. Between 5 and 14 days before the test, you pay a 25% admin fee, listed as Rs. 19,000 for standard IELTS and Rs. 19,700 for UKVI. Under 5 days, a transfer is not allowed and the request counts as a cancellation.

Is the IELTS remark fee refunded?

Yes, if your score goes up in any section. The remark, called Enquiry on Results, costs Rs. 39,650 for standard IELTS and Rs. 41,000 for UKVI in the July 2026 list. You must apply within six weeks of the test, and the fee is the same for one skill or all four.

Can I retake only one part of IELTS in Pakistan?

Yes, if you took IELTS on computer. The One Skill Retake lets you repeat Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking alone. IDP lists it at Rs. 47,630 to Rs. 48,050 for standard IELTS and Rs. 48,000 for UKVI. You must book it within 60 days of your original test.

How long is an IELTS score valid?

Most universities and organisations do not accept IELTS results older than two years, according to the British Council, unless you can show you have kept up or improved your English since. Plan your test so the result is still within two years when your application or visa is assessed.
