Quick answer
The right computer course after matric depends on your goal. Typing (4 weeks) and Office Automation (12 weeks) suit office jobs. Graphic design, video editing, WordPress and Python build freelance or study skills in 12 weeks. A one-year DIT covers a bit of everything. At PSTA, fees range from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 30,000.
Key takeaways
- • Start with typing if you can afford only one course: every other computer skill depends on it.
- • Office Automation is the most direct route to desk jobs such as computer operator or data entry.
- • A board DIT and an institute DIT are different qualifications, so check which one a job ad asks for.
- • Most NAVTTC free schemes require a CNIC and an age of 18 to 30, so they rarely fit right after Class 10.
- • Choose by your six-month goal and what you will build, not by what friends are taking.

Before you compare computer courses after matric, answer three quick questions on a piece of paper. Have you ever typed a full page in MS Word without looking at the keys? Have you made something on a computer that another person used, such as a poster, a video or a small program? Do you know what you want to be doing six months from now?
If you wrote "no" three times, that is normal for a student who has just finished Class 10. It also tells you where to begin. Most students skip this step, pick the course their cousin took, and lose months on something that doesn't fit them.
This review looks at eight computer courses after matric that a student in Pakistan can start with only a Class 10 result in hand. You will see:
- How long each course takes and what it costs at PSTA right now
- What you can show an employer or client at the end of each one
- Where a board DIT differs from an institute diploma
- Why most free government schemes won't take you until you turn 18
- A simple decision path and six questions to ask before you pay anyone
How I Judged These Computer Courses After Matric
I teach students in this age group every week, and the most common worry is whether a course will actually lead somewhere. So I judged every option on four plain tests rather than on how popular it sounds.
- Time. Can you finish it during the gap after matric, or does it run for a full year?
- Cost. What is the real fee, and can it be paid in parts?
- Proof. What will you have built or passed by the last week?
- Next step. Does it lead into a job, freelance work or a deeper course?
The timing matters because you won't be alone. BISE Abbottabad's 2026 Class 9 and 10 exams had 145,044 candidates, and 104,171 of them passed, according to The Express Tribune. That is one board in one region. Adding one of the short computer courses below to your marks is one of the few ways to stand apart from that crowd.
The demand side is also moving. Pakistan's IT exports rose 19% year on year to $435 million in September 2026, ProPakistani reported. Freelance export receipts reached $175.44 million in July 2026, up 45.5% on a year earlier, based on State Bank data reported by ProPakistani. Over the longer July to March stretch of FY2026, freelance exports came to $856.3 million, up 51%, according to Economic Survey figures carried by APP. Those are national totals, not a promise about your income. They do show that people with computer skills are being paid for them.
The 8 Options at a Glance
Here is the short version of all eight computer courses after matric before the detail. Fees and durations are taken from PSTA's course pages this week, so you can compare like with like. Fees for IT courses in Pakistan vary a lot between institutes, so treat these as one reference point.
| Option | Length | PSTA fee | What you can show at the end | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. English & Urdu Typing | 4 weeks | Rs. 3,000 | A tested typing speed | Anyone, as a first step |
| 2. Office Automation | 12 weeks | Rs. 12,000 (2 installments) | Letters, spreadsheets and slides | Office and data entry jobs |
| 3. One-Year DIT | 12 months | Rs. 2,000 a month | A broad IT foundation and several small projects | Students who aren't sure yet |
| 4. Graphic Design | 12 weeks | Rs. 18,000 (2 installments) | A design portfolio | Visual, creative students |
| 5. Video Editing | 12 weeks | Rs. 22,000 (2 installments) | Edited videos for a showreel | YouTube and social media work |
| 6. Python | 12 weeks | Rs. 30,000 (2 installments) | Working programs | Students heading toward ICS or BSCS |
| 7. WordPress | 12 weeks | Rs. 22,000 | A live-ready website | Future freelancers |
| 8. Digital Marketing | 12 weeks | Rs. 30,000 (2 installments) | Campaign plans and content samples | Family businesses and shops |
Options 1 and 2: Typing and Office Automation
English and Urdu Typing
This is the cheapest and shortest option on the list. PSTA's typing course runs for four weeks at Rs. 3,000. It sounds basic, but slow typing holds back every other computer skill. A designer, a coder and a clerk all type all day.
Many office ads list a minimum speed, which I covered in what WPM job ads in Pakistan ask for. If you can only afford one course right now, start here.
Office Automation
The Office Automation course takes 12 weeks and costs Rs. 12,000, which you can pay in two installments. It covers Windows, files and folders, typing practice, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and everyday internet use.
If you are asking which is the best computer course for jobs in an office, this is usually it. It suits a student who wants a desk job, such as a computer operator, receptionist or data entry post. It is also useful for anyone starting FA or ICS, because assignments and presentations get easier. The limit is clear: it won't make you a freelancer on its own. Use our basic computer skills checklist to see what you already know.
Option 3: A One-Year DIT, and the Board Alternative
A DIT after matric gives you a little of everything. PSTA's one-year DIT runs over two semesters at Rs. 2,000 a month. That works out to about Rs. 24,000 across 12 months, paid month by month.
The first semester covers basic IT, networking, operating systems, Python basics and MS Office. The second moves into graphic design, video editing, e-commerce models, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and MySQL. It suits a student who wants to try several areas before choosing one.
Be clear about one difference. PSTA's DIT ends with a PSTA diploma that employers can verify online. A board DIT is awarded by a technical board instead. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, KPBTE's post-matric DIT course outline describes a two-year program in four parts. Year one is computing. Year two adds English, Urdu, Islamiat, Pakistan Studies and electives built around mathematics, paired with economics, statistics or physics.
Board exams also carry their own fees. For the first-term 2026 DIT papers, the normal KPBTE form fee was Rs. 2,650, as published by Result.pk. If a government job ad asks for a board diploma, a board DIT is the safer choice. If you want practical skills fast, an institute diploma is quicker. Our 1-year vs 2-year DIT comparison goes deeper on this choice.
Options 4 and 5: Graphic Design and Video Editing
Graphic Design
Do you spend time fixing the layout of your class posters or Instagram stories? Then design may suit you. The graphic designing course runs for 12 weeks at Rs. 18,000. It covers layout, color, typography, Photoshop, Illustrator and CorelDRAW for print work.
The output is a portfolio. Local print shops, schools and small brands need menus, flyers and social posts all year. The trade-off is that design takes regular practice after the course ends. Expect your first portfolio pieces to feel plain.
Video Editing
The video editing course also takes 12 weeks and costs Rs. 22,000. You'll work in Premiere Pro, build stories on a timeline, cut cleanly and correct color.
Short videos for shops, teachers and YouTube channels are steady work. You will need a reasonably capable computer, though, and long render times on an old laptop get frustrating. Check your machine before you enroll.
Options 6 and 7: Python and WordPress
Python
Choose Python if you liked math and enjoy solving puzzles. PSTA's Python course runs for 12 weeks at Rs. 30,000 and starts from the basics: variables, loops, functions and object-oriented code.
It is the strongest preparation for ICS, BSCS or software work later. It is also the slowest to pay back. A 16-year-old rarely gets paid Python work in the first year, so treat this as an investment in your next degree. Try a few of these Python projects for beginners to see whether you enjoy it.
WordPress
The WordPress course takes 12 weeks and costs Rs. 22,000. You build real websites without writing much code, which makes it a practical route to paid website work for local shops and schools.
Clients care about results, so a finished site for a relative's shop or a local school counts for more than a certificate. One honest caution: freelancing platforms usually set a minimum age, so check their rules before you open an account.
Option 8: Digital Marketing
Does your family run a shop, a clinic or a small brand? Then the digital marketing course can be the most practical choice. It runs for 12 weeks at Rs. 30,000. You learn how a sales funnel works, how to write content, how search and social media bring customers, and how paid ads are measured.
The weak point is that marketing is hard to practice without a real business. Ask your family or a neighbor's shop to let you run their page for three months. That page becomes your proof.
What About Free Government Courses?
Free schemes are worth knowing about, but most of them won't fit you straight after Class 10. The 2026 phase of the Prime Minister's Youth Skill Development Program under NAVTTC aims to train more than 50,000 young people, Result.pk reported. Applicants need a valid CNIC and must be 18 to 30 years old.
The same report says the high-tech digital tracks generally prefer intermediate or university-level education. So keep these schemes on your list for later. In the meantime, a short course now builds the basics those tracks expect.
Which Course Fits You? A Decision Path
If you're still unsure which of these computer courses after matric suits you, start with what you want six months from now, not with a course name. Follow the path below and be honest with your answer.
- A desk job: take typing first, then Office Automation.
- Earning from a laptop: pick visuals (design or video) or logic (Python or WordPress), depending on what you enjoy.
- Helping a shop sell: digital marketing.
- Not sure: a one-year DIT lets you try several areas first.
Whichever you choose, add a few minutes of spoken English practice each day. Interviews and client calls test it, and our English speaking course takes 12 weeks if you want structured help.
What Should You Ask an Institute Before You Pay?
Banners for computer courses after matric look much the same all over town. The difference shows up in the details, so visit in person and ask these six questions.
- Who awards the certificate: a technical board or the institute itself?
- Can an employer check that certificate online?
- How many hours a week will you practice on a computer, not just listen?
- What will you have built or produced by the final week?
- Is the fee paid monthly, in installments or all at once?
- Can you watch one class before you pay?
Write the answers down for two or three institutes and compare them side by side. Compare computer course fees only after you compare those answers. A cheap course with no lab time usually costs you more in wasted months.
Starting After Matric at PSTA
All eight computer courses after matric in this review are taught at PSTA. You will find the campus facing FIMS College, along Old College Road in the Mandian area of Abbottabad. You can sit in class there, join live from home anywhere in Pakistan, or mix the two. New batches open every month, with morning, afternoon, evening and weekend slots.
Each certificate can be checked on our certificate verification page. Browse every option on the courses page, then fill in the admission form when you've chosen. Want a second opinion first? Message your result and your goal on WhatsApp at +92 314 5424399. We'll suggest where to begin.
Your Move This Week: Test Two Skills for 30 Minutes Each
Don't decide from this page alone. Pick the two options that interest you most and give each one a 30-minute trial at home. Design a birthday card in a free design tool, or write a five-line program in a free online Python editor. Then type one page and time yourself.
Notice which task made you lose track of time. That reaction is better guidance than any list of computer courses after matric, including this one.
Frequently asked questions
Which computer course after matric is best for a government job?
Start with typing and Office Automation, because most clerical and computer operator tests check typing speed and MS Office. Then read the job ad closely. If it asks for a diploma from a technical board, you will need a board DIT rather than an institute certificate. Keep a copy of a recent ad so you know exactly what is required before you enroll anywhere.
Can I take a computer course while studying FSc, FA or ICS?
Yes. Most short courses run for a few hours a week, and PSTA offers morning, afternoon, evening and weekend slots, so you can fit one around college. Avoid starting a new course in the six weeks before board exams. A 12-week course started right after your first-year classes settle down usually works well.
Is a three-month course enough to start earning online?
It is enough to build your first portfolio pieces, but rarely enough to earn steadily. Most students need a few more months of practice and small projects for relatives or local shops. Also check age rules, because freelancing platforms set a minimum age. Treat the course as the start of the skill, not the end of it.
Do I need my own laptop for these courses?
Not for every course. Typing and Office Automation can be learned on campus computers, though home practice speeds things up. Video editing and graphic design are easier with a capable machine of your own, and live online classes need a working computer and steady internet. Check your system before you pay for an editing course.
Should I choose DIT or ICS after matric?
They do different jobs. ICS is an intermediate program that leads toward a degree such as BSCS. A DIT is a skills diploma focused on practical computing. Many students do ICS for their degree path and add short computer courses alongside it. Choose a board DIT instead of ICS only if you are sure you want a technical diploma route.
How much do computer courses after matric cost?
Fees vary between institutes. At PSTA this week, typing costs Rs. 3,000, Office Automation Rs. 12,000, graphic design Rs. 18,000, video editing and WordPress Rs. 22,000 each, and Python and digital marketing Rs. 30,000 each. The one-year DIT is Rs. 2,000 a month. Board diplomas also carry separate exam form fees.
Can matric students join free NAVTTC courses?
Usually not straight away. The 2026 Prime Minister Youth Skill Development phase under NAVTTC asks for a valid CNIC and an age of 18 to 30, and its high-tech digital tracks prefer intermediate or university education. Keep it in mind for later, and use the time now to build basic computer skills that those tracks expect.
